PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

What a week it has been with elections for our 2022 student leaders, preparations for our graduation ceremony, 2022 Prep transitions and the return to school bands onsite. We are certainly making the most of our return to school and hope to continue to pack the term with unforgettable experiences.

Student Leadership Group 2022

As you are probably aware we have a very clear process for student leadership positions that involves considerable voice and agency from our students. This week marks the conclusion of our student presentations and the democratic process for choosing our 2022 student leadership group. I would like to thank every student who presented for a leadership position and congratulate our 2022 leadership group. The standard of presentation was incredible. Every child spoke with such confidence and eloquence and the whole process made me so proud to be the Principal of RGLPS.

Our school captains Emily and Xander, our vice captains Gracie and Laila, our student council leaders Maddie and Toby, our environment captains Milla and Lucy and our Deaf facility captains Chloe and Joshua are all very eager to get to work and lead our student community onto bigger and better things in the future.

Changes to Restrictions

Based on advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer, some significant changes have been made to how cases of COVID-19 and contacts of cases are managed in schools as we reach the 90% double dose milestone for eligible people in the coming days.

Schools will continue the process of identifying contacts of a confirmed case of COVID-19 at schools; contacts will no longer be contacted by the Department of Health with quarantine requirements. If your child is identified as a contact the school will contact you directly.

Contacts will be required to complete a standard (PCR) test within 24 hours from when they are identified by the school as a contact.

If the PCR test returns a negative result, the student can immediately return to school, with evidence of the negative result provided to the school.

It is strongly recommended that contacts complete five days of rapid antigen tests in the morning before they attend school.

You will be able to obtain these testing kits from testing centres from Monday 22 November if your child is required to complete a standard PCR test.

Where students are currently in quarantine due to an existing school exposure, they will be able to provide evidence of a negative standard PCR test and return to school following the instructions above.

In exceptional circumstances the Department of Health may determine that contacts in significant school outbreaks are still required to quarantine for seven days. In this scenario, students will be notified directly of any additional quarantine arrangements.

Face masks will now only be required by staff, visitors and Grades 3 to 6 students in an indoor space within a primary school (or schools which have primary students such as P-12 school).

The wearing of masks remains recommended elsewhere where physically distancing cannot be maintained.

As we head into the final few weeks of the school year, please continue to care for yourself and those around you.

Staffing 2022

Monica Lamperd has been working at Golf Links in some capacity for over a decade. She has helped to build our incredible instrumental music program and during this time she was also able to complete a primary school teaching qualification. Her aim has always been to put that degree to use as a classroom teacher but the enticement of our music program has been too great a temptation over the past three years. She has however, reached that point in her teaching career when it is the right time to take that leap and have her own classroom. Monica will be moving to Pascoe Vale South Primary School for 2022 and we wish her all the best and share in her excitement over the new journey.

Last year I commenced at RGLPS at a very strange time during the very first lockdown period and I did not meet many of our staff for several weeks. One of the first people I did meet was Bay Fikri. Bay has also worked at RGLPS for a few years now as a classroom teacher, Team Leader and School Improvement Team member. Bay has accepted a position at Greenvale Primary School for 2022. He will be working with Year 6 students again and his travel time will be significantly reduced. We wish Bay all the best as he continues his teaching journey.

Take care,

ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS’ REPORT

Outdoor Classroom

At Monday’s assembly, we presented some very special ‘Champion’ pins to our first 10 students to finish the Premiers ‘reading challenge. It has been wonderful to see so many students participating and completing the challenge this year. I know personally, I have enjoyed connecting with my children through reading and have really enjoyed the experience, I trust other families have too. Well done to everyone who got involved.

We are still awaiting the outcome of our shade grant application. When this is confirmed we will engage Melbourne Shade Sails to install shade over this area.

Support for Your Kids to get Active

Does your child love sport and being active? Does your family have a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card? You may be eligible for up to $200 to put towards the cost of your child’s participation in physical activities.

As children return to sport over the coming months, the Get Active Kids Voucher Program helps eligible families get their kids involved in organised sport and active recreation activities.

Under the program, children may be eligible to receive up to $200 to help with the cost of membership and registration fees, uniforms, and equipment.

The program also provides a special consideration stream to support children residing in care services as well as temporary or provisional visa holders, undocumented migrants or international students.

Applications for vouchers in round three of the program close at 5pm Tuesday 30 November. For eligibility requirements and to apply, visit the Get Active Victoria website.

Whole School Wellbeing Day

On Wednesday 15th December, students are invited to participate in a special wellbeing day as part of our end of year celebrations.

After a very challenging couple of years, we couldn’t think of a better way to (hopefully) see the end of lockdowns by riding our way into 2022 on exciting show rides and a special pizza lunch. Students will receive a small pizza that is individually boxed (for hygiene purposes). Pizzas will be delivered at approximately 11am for some students and 1:30pm for others. Please pack an extra snack to see your child through to lunch or the end of the day.

If you have not yet paid and would like your child to participate, you can still pay for this event titled ‘Performing Arts Payment 2021’ by logging into Compass.

We ask that you please place a pizza order for your child by completing the survey with the link below. Please do so by Monday 29th November. If you have more than one child at this school please complete this form for each child.

We’re so excited to be able to share this fun day with students.

ICAS 2021

Most students registered for 2021 ICAS tests have now been able to sit their assessments. The 2021 ICAS extended sitting window closes on Friday 26th November but we will endeavour to support those RGLPS students registered to undertake their ICAS before this date.

ICAS certificates and results will be passed on to students when these are received by the school. Participating students who are awarded a Credit, Distinction or High Distinction for each ICAS will be announced in an upcoming school newsletter. If any parent/carer would prefer that this information is not published in the school newsletter, please advise the school as soon as possible.

On a personal note...

In the event that I will not return to RGLPS before the end of the year, I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and summer holiday break. Best of luck to our graduating Year 6 students and any families moving on to a new school. I look forward to seeing everyone else again in 2022!
