 PRINCIPALS’ REPORT

The sun is shining, and all is going well at Golf Links. With a few excursions spattered around our learning this term the students are feeling excited and fun has been an optimal component of the learning thus far this term. With the progress on the sensory garden obvious, we have a real buzz as to what that will look like in a few weeks’ time. I can confirm that the RGLPS express will be rehomed in our Prep playground as it is a beloved piece of play equipment and traditionally a right of passage to ride.

Education Week

Next week RGLPS will celebrate Education Week – an annual celebration of education in Victoria!

This year’s theme is ‘Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate’, which celebrates physical activity, hands-on learning and student voice in education.

RGLPS parents and carers are invited to visit the school next Thursday 18th May in session 1 (9am – 9:50am) and/or session 6 (2:40pm – 3:30pm). Classes will be engaged in fun activities around this year’s theme in both classrooms and specialist lessons at these times.

To cater for families with multiple children at RGLPS, or those who are unavailable in one specified timeslot, we are offering two open sessions next week.

We look forward to seeing lots of parents and carers at one or both Education Week sessions next week!

2023 Student Attitudes to School Survey

We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction and are conducting a survey to find out what your child thinks of their school.

The AtoSS is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Education to assist schools to gain an understanding of students’ perceptions and experience of school. Students will be asked about their thoughts and feelings in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.

This year, the AtoSS will be conducted at Golf Links from the 22nd of May to the 5th of June. If your Child is in Year 4, 5 or 6 we have some information in Compass with more detail about the survey.

APPLY NOW TO ENROL YOUR CHILD IN PREP FOR 2024

The Department of Education has released a new statewide timeline for enrolling in Foundation (Prep) for the 2024 school year.

If you have a child starting primary school in 2024, it’s time to enrol. Make sure to submit your enrolment application by Friday 28 July 2023.

If you are enrolling the sibling of a student at our school for Foundation in 2024, and both children will be attending our school at the same time, your child is prioritised for a place at our school as per the department’s Placement Policy.

It is important to follow the statewide timeline to enrol your child in Foundation. Enrolling your child in line with the timelines allows us to plan our classrooms, staffing and transition activities and ensures your child has the best start to school.

For more information, please read about when and how to enrol your child in Foundation at vic.gov.au/enrolling-foundation-prep.

Prep enrolment packs are available in the foyer at the school office.

2023 ICAS

ICAS assessments will be offered to students in Term 3, 2023. All ICAS will be online this year and will be held on the dates listed below:

ICAS registrations can be made through the Parent Payment Portal located at https://www.icasassessments.com/shop-parents/  Please use the RGLPS access code OTR015. ICAS registrations close on Monday 31st July 2023.

Please note that participation is completely optional and at parent expense.

I also ask parents to carefully check 2023 dates against external and family events as ICAS do not issue refunds under any circumstances. Children will need to miss a classroom or specialist lesson to complete each ICAS.

NEW PROCEDURE FOR PREP 2024 ENROLMENTS

Enrolments for Prep 2024 will work differently to previous years. The State Government has introduced a new state-wide enrolment timeline for all government primary schools. Their aim is to make the enrolment process clearer and more equitable for all families.

Here’s how the prep 2024 enrolments will work:

TERM 1

  • Schools cannot accept any prep enrolments in term 1, 2023.

  • School tours can commence and will continue during term 2.

  • In late term 1, a ‘Prep Enrolment Information Pack for Schools for Parents/Carers for the 2024 school year’ will be distributed to all families by early childhood service providers (kindergartens and childcare centres). The pack will also be available from the school if required.

TERM 2

  • Monday 24th April 2023: from this date enrolments can be submitted using the ‘Application to Enrol in a Victorian Government School Form’ from the information pack.

  • Open days, information sessions and Education Week celebrations will be held.

TERM 3

  • Friday 28th July 2023: enrolment applications are due.

  • Friday 11th August: families will receive written notification of their enrolment outcome.

  • Friday 25th August:  due date for families to return their completed ‘School Enrolment Form’ to accept their prep offer. This form will be included with your letter of offer.

TERM 4

  • Prep 2024 transition sessions will take place
